“Hit the Reset button”
WOW! 2017 has arrived and has taken off with a BANG! This New Year presents us with an amazing opportunity. We have the chance to begin afresh. No matter what occurred in 2016, in 2017 we can have something different, if that is what we desire.
Maybe your circumstances have not changed and it’s not possible for you to do anything about them, but you can change your attitude and thoughts about your circumstances. The one thing you have total control over are your thoughts. Only you decide how you choose to think about something.
So, if you want to experience something different in 2017, then I invite you to hit the reset button in your life by changing your thinking. It is your thoughts that determine the kind of life you live. Hitting the reset button simply means that you make a conscious decision to start looking at your life from a different perspective.
Every year many of us make New Year resolutions to better our life in some way. We want to lose weight, get a new job, begin or end a relationship, or something relevant to our happiness. But for some reason that commitment to change only lasts a very short time and we find ourselves reverting back into old patterns of behavior. Our New Year resolutions fall by the wayside and we feel like failures once again.
What if, instead of making a resolution to change your circumstances with a change in behavior, you made the decision to change your attitude/thinking about your circumstances?
What if, instead of going on a diet because you think you’re fat and need to lose weight, you shifted to thinking you have a wonderful body that serves you well and you need to learn how to take better care of it?
What if, instead of complaining about your job, you focus on the good things present in your job while you look for better employment opportunities?
What if, instead of signing up for online dating because you feel lonely and unloved and you want someone to fill that void for you, you sign up with the attitude that you have a wonderful personality and you want to share it with a like-minded person?
You might not believe that a simple shift in your attitude/thinking can radically change your life but it can. You don’t need to have more money, more friends, or more resources, to completely change your life. You only need the willingness to change how you think and feel about your life.
If you are ready to hit the reset button and begin having new and wonderful things appear in your life, I have a few suggestions for you:
1. Make a list of all the areas in your life that you want to see change. (My physical body, my living conditions, etc.)
2. Using that list, create another list of how you think and feel about those areas of your life. Be specific. (I feel ugly when I look at my body. I am uncomfortable with where I live.)
3. Make a third list and write down all the things you have to be grateful for in those areas of your life. (I am healthy. I have housing.)
4. Hit the Reset button – Create a list that reflects a new attitude about your circumstances. (I love my body; it serves me well. I appreciate my humble living conditions; they allow me to feel safe.)
It doesn’t take much to create an atmosphere of happiness around you in your life. You only need the willingness. Make the decision today and start creating the life you want and desire in 2017. Your life is in your hands. You have all the power. Whatever you want to change, just hit the reset button on your attitude/thinking and begin creating a life filled with joy, happiness and serenity.
